Stills captured on assignment for By The Midnight Sun, documenting journey and terrain under sustained light in remote Alaska.
By The Midnight Sun was shot in the Talkeetna Mountains of Alaska, where long days and changing light shaped both the journey and the imagery. As the primary stills photographer on the film, my focus was to document presence, movement, and environment — not as static moments, but as sustained experience.
The work moves between landscape, action, and quiet, observant portraiture to reflect how these riders engage with terrain that is both vast and unforgiving. This was about capturing rhythm, continuity, and the subtle tension between endurance and place.
Shooting in Alaska under extended natural light shifted how I approached still photography. Instead of isolating individual moments, the goal was to let sequences and duration inform frame choice — how a rider enters a canyon, how light moves across rock, how muscles and mindset adjust through time.
The editorial reach of By The Midnight Sun extended beyond the film itself, with stills published globally alongside written features in Cranked (UK), Spoke (NZ), and Freehub (USA). This work exists as both documentation and interpretation — an extension of place, narrative, and human motion within a landscape that demands attention.
Primary still photography produced in collaboration with Modify Content.
