A rare look inside K2’s Advanced Resource Collective, where prototype skis are designed, built, and tested in Seattle.
Tucked inside a small warehouse near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the K2 Advanced Resource Collective operates as a working laboratory for innovation. Known simply as the ARC, the facility functions as K2’s in-house prototype shop, allowing designers and engineers to build, test, and refine skis without the constraints of overseas manufacturing.
The ARC plays a critical role in K2’s product development process, serving not only the K2 brand but also Line Skis and Backcountry Access. It is a space designed for experimentation, iteration, and problem-solving, where materials, shapes, and construction methods can be pushed and reworked in real time.
My assignment focused specifically on documenting the manufacturing and prototyping process inside the ARC. While the broader story included contributions from multiple photographers, I was the only photographer granted access to photograph inside the facility itself. The images from this gallery were produced on location at the ARC and published as part of a long-form editorial feature examining how modern ski design is shaped by hands-on experimentation and athlete-driven development.
